Please explain where you first encountered your love of music, and what music personally connects with you the most.
Time really flies! Little did I know when I started playing at Redeemer 32 years ago that I would still be playing at Redeemer. A lot has evolved during those years at church including the expansion and evolution of different styles of music as well as changing from mostly organ music to mostly piano music.
The beginning of music for me in my life was not a particular moment when I was introduced to it, but I was born into it. My dad had his master’s degree in music, was a conductor and we owned a music store from the time I was 4 years old. I grew up with music all the time, not knowing that it would end up playing a huge part in my life. Because my parents did not believe in babysitters, I spent many hours at the store and also went to concerts performed by professional concert artists as well as hosting them. As I look back at it, I know I was really very fortunate but at the time it was just normal to me, and I did not think about it.
As a teenager I began to really like my piano and practiced a lot. That is a good thing because it set the foundation for what most of my adult life has been with teaching piano and sharing it with others.
I have my definite preferences on style of music enjoying some classical and lots of smooth, flowy, beautiful music no matter what era it is from. I also like just a sprinkling of spicey jazz. Lots of music I tackle for the technic of it and some just speaks right into my heart.
I have enjoyed playing for all of you through the years and am thankful for the friendships that have evolved from it. I read a comment a few years ago that I would like to share with you and that I feel is so true.
